Foresight Institute Awards 2020 Distinguished Student Prize to Liang Feng of Northwestern University

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 5, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — The Foresight Institute, a leading think tank, research, and public interest organization focused on molecular manufacturing and other transformative technologies, announced the 2020 winner for the prestigious Distinguished Student Prize.

The Award recognizes the College graduate or undergraduate student whose work is considered most notable in advancing the development and understanding of nanotechnology; Foresight has awarded this Prize annually since 1997.

Recently of Texas A&M University and now at Northwestern University, Liang Feng is this year’s winner of the Foresight Institute Distinguished Student Award.

Dr. Feng focused on the synthesis of framework materials with hierarchical porosities, architectures, and compositions and their applications in catalysis, transportation, and gas separation. He developed several general synthetic strategies, including linker thermolysis, reinstallation and migration, modular synthesis, and programming, in a quest to engineer hierarchical porosity, distribution and composition in multicomponent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and their hierarchical superstructures.

Dr. Liang Feng obtained his PhD degree in 2020 from Texas A&M University under the supervision of Professor Hong-Cai Zhou. He is now a postdoctoral researcher at the laboratory of Northwestern University chemist and 2016 Nobel laureate Sir Fraser Stoddart. Over the past three years, he has 44 peer-reviewed publications, including 28 as first author or co-first author, in a variety of prestigious journals.
