Shaw used each park’s previous natural grass field as a benchmark for its playability study, which has been developed based upon kinesiology research conducted with Auburn University®. The goal was to not only have the highest performing artificial turf, but to have the highest performing surface for baseball. This research is based on seven playability metrics and a patented data analysis tool that compares system playability to the highest performance natural grass. The Rangers and the Diamondbacks – who are among five MLB teams to use Shaw Sports Turf products — opted for the B1K natural systems which provide excellent ball surface and player surface interaction. Improved player surface interaction results in less lower-extremity fatigue and true reaction times. Player safety and performance played a major role in each team’s decision.

The Geofill infill brand includes coconut husks and fibers that are a rapidly renewable resource. The infill requires much less water than natural grass, thus resulting in significant levels of conservation.
