Ms. Ruby’s House of LIFE will honor the legacy of its namesake by fighting for policies that address poverty and protect birthing parents and families.
LAS VEGAS, March 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Nevada cannabis lobbyist and founder of Cannabis Equity and Inclusion Community A’Esha Allums announced today the formation of Ms. Ruby’s House of LIFE (Love, Inclusion, Freedom, Equity), a statewide advocacy organization dedicated to honoring the life and work of Nevada civil rights titan Ruby Duncan. Ms. Ruby’s House of LIFE’s mission is to focus on recruiting and training advocates and policymakers who will pursue policies that address the state’s childcare and housing crises and eradicate poverty.
Goins, one of the state’s preeminent cannabis policy analysts and consultants, knew something more needed to be done after bumping up against legislators who were hostile to policies that support working people.
“All the lobbying in the world doesn’t matter when elected officials are simply opposed to your agenda,” Allums said. “I started Ms. Ruby’s House of LIFE because not only do working people need another seat at the table of power, we need elected officials who don’t have to be convinced that our worth and humanity matter.”
When Allums approached Duncan, the co-founder and executive director of Operation Life gave her blessing. “We are stronger because young people are going to take this agenda and keep moving,” Duncan said about her life’s work of fighting poverty. “Black women, brown women, white women, we’re all gonna make this agenda work. It’s a must. Our children depend on it. Our seniors depend on it. We must make the legislators work for us and our families.”
Ms. Ruby’s House of LIFE is a 501(c)(3) organization that aims to bring more working people and parents to the halls of power. The organization will work to pass legislation at all levels of government that will address the housing & childcare crisis, protect birthing parents and eradicate poverty.
