MEDIA ADVISORY – Rally to support TSSA Safety Inspectors as strike deadline looms

TORONTO, July 17, 2022 /CNW/ – Just three days before their strike deadline, TSSA safety inspectors and labour allies will rally outside the Ministry of Labour building where negotiations are taking place.

Date:

Monday, July 18, 2022

Time:

9 a.m.

Location:

Ministry of Labour, 400 University Avenue, Toronto

The strike deadline is 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, July 21. The inspectors have been negotiating their first contract since joining OPSEU/SEFPO in 2021. They are looking for improved accountability for public safety from the TSSA, and wages and benefits that are consistent with industry standards, in order to retain and attract workers with the skills and qualifications required to do the job safely. The employer has engaged in stonewalling, intimidation and manipulation.

Members of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 546, Safety Inspectors at the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) inspect everything from amusement park rides, food trucks and elevators, to fuel burning equipment, propane dispensing stations, boilers and pressure vessels (BPV) and elements in nuclear plants.
