'We are One' completes the largest blood donation in history with 70,000 volunteers

Strengthening the community safety net by rolling up sleeves to overcome the blood supply shortage

SEOUL, South Korea , Dec. 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Amid repeated blood shortages every winter, youth volunteers from ‘We Are One’ planned a group blood donation campaign last summer. With the aim of solving the national crisis where blood was extremely scarce due to reasons such as the decrease in blood donation participants due to the prolonged COVID-19, they managed to complete above 70,000 blood donations by November to prepare for the winter season along with the summer vacation and Chuseok holidays, when blood supply is usually reduced.

Meanwhile, ‘We Are One’, a youth volunteer group, was launched on July 30th as a volunteer group composed of youth members from Shincheonji Church of Jesus.

As this campaign was conducted at blood banks located in 17 metropolitan governments across the country, ‘We Are One’ members across the country donated their blood, and as planned, 70,000 blood donations were completed on the 27th before December.

For a large number of people to effectively donate blood in a short period of time, ‘We Are One’ focused on matching the situation of the blood banks and individual schedules. Members also showed their best efforts to solve the blood shortage situation by paying special attention to health management and making efforts to avoid being disqualified for blood donation.

In fact, to achieve the goal of 70,000 blood donations completed before winter arrives, about 100,000 ‘We Are One’ members across the country have visited blood banks and joined the campaign over the past three months.

Junsu Hong, a representative of ‘We Are One’ said, “Blood donation is the only means to save the lives of patients who need a blood transfusion and is noble volunteer work. I appreciate all the members who participated in the blood donation with a clear sense of calling for the practice of sharing life. ‘We Are One’ will continue to participate in blood donation to overcome the blood supply shortage and strengthen the community safety net.”
