Media Advisory – Weeneebayko Area Health Authority to address federal funding for its new health campus issue

MOOSE FACTORY, ON, May 24, 2024 /CNW/ – The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) will be holding a press conference to address the total lack of funding in the Government of Canada’s 2024-2025 Budget for WAHA’s new health campus.

In 2007, the federal government signed the Weeneebayko Area Health Integration Framework Agreement (WAHIFA), committing to funding 45 per cent of capital costs to build a new health campus, including a hostel, staff housing, an Elder Care Centre and a new hospital in Moosonee and acute care centre on Moose Factory Island.

The new health campus is urgently needed to replace the 75-year-old Weeneebayko General Hospital (WGH), Canada’s oldest un-renovated hospital.
