Cancel culture expert and author of “The Cancel Culture Curse” Evan Nierman has called out “cancel vultures” for their online attacks upon Sarah Comrie AKA”Citi Bike Karen,” a pregnant New York hospital worker accused of racism over a confrontation captured in a viral video. Citing the incident as a textbook example, Nierman explains why cancel culture can be so devastating to everyday people.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 23, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Evan Nierman, top cancel culture expert and author of “The Cancel Culture Curse,” is calling out the “cancel vultures” in the case of Sarah Comrie, the New York healthcare worker now known as “Citi Bike Karen.” She recently made headlines after being shown on camera arguing over a rented commuter bike.
Defining “cancel vultures” as those who thrive on picking apart the remains of cancel culture victims, Nierman says those attacking Comrie are making the mistake of jumping on the cancelation bandwagon and rushing to judgement, before considering all the facts or the severity of their actions.
Comrie’s life devolved into chaos before the facts were out.
“This is the latest in a series of nearly identical cancel culture scenarios that have torn apart the lives of regular citizens,” said Nierman, CEO of crisis PR firm Red Banyan. “In this case, the media and observers online immediately latched onto the narrative circulating on social media and amplified the outrage around perceived racism, without bothering to dig deeper and uncover the facts, including asking about any receipts for the bike rental. Cancel culture deprives its victims of due process with online mobs serving as judge, jury and executioner before the person can muster a defense or receive a fair hearing.”
Nierman points out that what has made Comrie’s case different from many is that she proactively employed some of the recommended strategies for people who find themselves unfairly under assault by a cancel culture mob. These recommendations are one of the focuses of his latest book, “The Cancel Culture Curse,” which Nierman penned by drawing on his firsthand experiencing counseling clients.
“This is a textbook example of why it is so dangerous to jump on the cancel culture train. Cancel culture is the biggest threat to regular citizens who, unlike celebrities, do not enjoy huge public platform through which they respond, can be devastating and permanent.”
